About Me

I'm Justin Weinmann, artist, teacher and history buff based in the Houston area.

I've been teaching for fifteen years. History, graphic design, photojournalism, podcast production. If it involves making something, I've probably taught it.

I've also been drawing my whole life. Bic pens on whatever paper was nearby. India ink on Bristol board at midnight. Procreate on the couch while everyone else is asleep. Drawing is just what I do when I'm not doing something else.

History Illustrated started because I wanted my students to actually enjoy history. So I did what came naturally. I drew it. Those classroom illustrations eventually became videos. Those videos eventually reached millions of teachers and students around the world. That still surprises me a little.

Every video is hand drawn, hand lettered and narrated by me. No AI. No stock footage. Just original art and storytelling.

I also wrote a book. It has something called the Maschenkel in it. That's a different story.

I teach during the day. I draw whenever I can. The two things have always felt like the same thing to me. Finding a way to make something worth paying attention to.

I Wrote a Book

A collection of poetry and illustrations built around something called the Maschenkel, a creature that feeds on everything you never quite finish. Twenty-five years of notes, fragments and scribbles that refused to stay in my sketchbook. Available on Amazon.
